Adoption Pamphlet Released

Last week, Missouri's Task Force on Adoption released a 26-page booklet about adoption. It's called a "step-by-step guide" for potential adoptive parents.
"[Attorney General Jay] Nixon said today the pamphlet was created to answer lingering questions that parents have about what can be a complicated process."
The booklet answers questions about adoption costs, time frames, options and more. Read more at ColumbiaTribune.com.

Adoption Options

Burlington United Methodist Family Services exists to help people explore adoption-related options. They also help people understand exactly how the adoption process works.
"Many prospective adoptive parents fear having the biological parents change their minds at the last minute. 'That's not as common as people believe,' Brown said. 'The biological parents have 72 hours after a baby is born. After that, they can't change their minds...'"
Other common myths that Burlington tries to address are the beliefs that adoption is too complicated and that it's too expensive. Read more at Register-Herald.com.

Adoption is Within the Reach of Many

"Often people say that they do not think they can afford to adopt. Initially the cost seems a bit overwhelming to many folks, but once it is broken down into manageable parts, it is doable for most working families..."
Income requirements are "liberal" for adoptive families, and substantial tax credits are also available. In addition, adoption is no longer limited to the traditional two-parent family but has opened up to single parents and - in some cases - gay and lesbian couples. Read more at Times-Standard.com.
